Waterbury to pay $40,000 for private school books

Waterbury Mayor Michael J. Jarjura is asking city officials to spend
$40,000 buying books for city children attending private schools. The
request easily passed the Board of Aldermen and will go before the Board of
Education on Monday. The request has sparked some questions from Board of
Education members about why the city should subsidize private
education.
