091 Yoga Vasistha Interlude: Siddhis 1/2

The possibility of supernormal powers -- siddhis.Why should siddhis not be possible? If this reality is a dream and we awake from it then is there not a parallel with lucid dreaming whereby we can manipulate reality as we wish? Like Neo in the Matrix!Still, if it were possible, where are these superpowered sages? We need to be cautious about chasing after this especially in the name of spirituality. Cf Satya Sai Baba.However, the yogic texts assume such abilities.What is the nature of the yogic mind? We assume that we are walking around in an external concrete reality. Did our ancestors share such a notion? The psychologist Jaynes posits the existence of the bicameral mind which has direct access to the voice of the gods. There is also the imaginal faculty and our relationship with the unconscious.St Augustine believed that by probing memory (the unconscious?) he could find God. He had a vivid relationship with memory. He was probing his own nature, his own self.The ancient mind was very good at visualisation. A lot of meditation techniques are actually visualistaion practices. The god is visualised to the point that the god becomes real.
