the best way is to divide them as he does and then have the two packs on the table and have one pick black and one pick red then switch the pack then say you have no clue but inside the pack the red one will be in the black deck and the black one will be in the red then look through them and put theirs on top and then say you cant find it and say you will just take a wild guess and pick the first one off both packets!
