Farrah gives great and insightful answers tothese difficult and misinformed questions.Barry Norman would change his superior, judgemental tone if he was attacked andviolated. People are so quick to blame the media - sad.

This is a great film. I think rather than encouraging men to go out and rape women (they do that anyway) it would remind them that some women will fight back by any means necessary. My dad always told me to fight like a wild cat if I found myself in that situation and I find this film gloriously satisfying! No matter how strong a man is girls, remember they have soft spots, go for their eyes and their groin!

note Normand's reaction to her saying "I tried my best to get there where you men hover sometimes".Norman says "oh thanks" ..I sense a defensive misogyny in his tone.

** please read "Agreed" for "Greed"

The woman (though lovely in her heyday) has had a pretty unforuntate life. I can't quite help but like her in spite of and because of her once-incredible beauty.

Greed queenastilon.I've seldom seen Fawcett so articulate and ready for his slightly bullying quesions though. Her CHARACTER in EXTEMETIES dispels the notion (in my view) that all women are hapless victims. I liked that about the play and the Fawcett characterization in film.I really consider it the actress' best work and she had some doing to overcome the air-headness of her Charlie's Angels stint.

Shubael, I see your point and Extremeties was indeed a great achievement for Miss Fawcett. But I still think that this was a better interview than just "Oh, isn't this good and aren't you lovely?" and he gets a good reaction out of her. If her character vindicates the victim it's because of the script - or did you mean her personal character?
Shubael1809 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I find Norman intentionally confrontational. Her performance in Extremities is really her best work. I don't see in any way how that performance would encourage to any greater or lesser degree a rapist who was already determined to find his victim. In my opnion Fawcett's character vindicates the victim. That she happens to be legendarily beautiful as she does it is beside the point Mr. Norman.Miss Fawcett handles him like a pro.

thefigleaf, he SAID this was a very good movie!! Barry Norman is NOT a jerk; he's just not a sycophant. Most interviewers would have said "Oh miss Fawcett this is powerful and serious and you're so great" but we know Barry and expect far more from him. Look at how he gets intelligent responses from her.

Having listened to Barry Norman for decades, I assure you he presents considered and balanced viewpoints. The concerns he raises here are valid. Note he first asks if the victim isn't almost as bad as the rapist, to get her to explain that, before he asks about the risk of copycat crimes; these DO occur as a result of film & tv violence. He does not advocate banning, and already said the film shouldn't be dismissed. Don't know how much more there was after the end of this clip. |
