Might that paintwork been done by The Fool Collective? I know they were one of a few at the forefront of hippie/psychedelic graphic design work in the late '60's, but they were pretty strong in Great Britain and Europe. It could've been one of the artists either in the U.S.( New York or California (San Francisco in particular, but I'm not sure - I kind of doubt it). Maybe it was one of Peter Brown's friends!

Yes, that's right. Jack played a Fender baritone in the early days of Cream. I read that a famous artist gave it a "psychedelic" paint job for him that took to long to dry. It was sticking to his shirt so he bought the Gibson EB-3 bass as a replacement. Good call.
