Make your bike into a single speed hipster bike! This week Dave Neff joins me to take some old broken bikes and mash them up into a new radical ride. Everbody's experience will be different, but we rebuilt the bottom bracket, put new wheels on, chopped and flipped the handlebars, took off one of the front chain rings and put on a single speed bmx-style gear in the back.

sharpanator you're a little rude regarding old classic steel frames. they're a little heavier than alu ones but more comfortable and you can rework them much more easily (benting, welding)... i agree with wider tires, though. cheers.

You make it look so quick and simple but what about all those "time intensive" jobs like re-dishing the back wheel, etc? Yes, you mentioned getting a straight chain line, but you never told us all that was involved. Perhaps a follow up vid with some more details?

i dont like the bike, for me speedbikes or fitnessbikes have wider slick tyres and MTB Handle Bars. It would also be nice to use a aluminium frame, that big shown is just old garbage, ppl will shake your heads.

dude fixed gears are super hard to ride. whenever the back wheels are moving, the pedals are moving. at least with a single spead / coaster brake you can coast and don't have to be pedalling 24/7. ppl who ride fixed gears have like intense ass leg muscles.

Hmm. I think i should've done this (& what the hispter chain-smoking bike mechanic told me to do) & find a road frame & convert it into a fixed-gear single-speed. Plus I could get all the parts I (don't) need ie Wheels with Deep V rims, KyotoLoco cranks, etc.Plus for people who say they can't go up hills I'm gonna go look at you with y head cocked 45° to the side & say "really"! I get up hills on my fixie faster than any geared bike. I just pedal. Plus they're simpler.

nope, it was the reflection of somebody that showed up to visit another floor. David is holding the video camera

wrong size frame, it was a 52cm, he needed a 56 or so
beablader (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
this might be dumb but why would you not just use the white frame that dave found????
