Your wrong, thujone in absinthe could not poison you, anyway, over time, your kidneys filter thujone from your blood. Methanol however cannot be filtered by your renal system, it stays in your system and if you take it regularly, you are poisoned.

It's not methanol in absint what made people crazy man :D thujone made. you know thujone? chemical added to flavour the drink. some people say it is a hallucinogen, but i dont think so. Love the stuff or hate it. drink too much any booze and you are fucked up. not the Absinthe to blame, just stupid users :D

According to a recent article, it appears some are STILL adding poison to absinthe. A Czech spirit maker was shut down because a sample of their spirit base tested at over 4 times the recommended safe limit of methanol.Maybe inferior absinthe was making people go mad back in the day. I can imagine that excessive methanol consumption wouldn't be good for you over a long period of time.
