DivBMesa I do not understand why you say that. Paul walked on and was greeted with mockery from judges and crowd, there was no story. On BGT and X Factor this year everyone had a sad story. On TV yesterday when told by judges they had got through, they were hysterical. Paul was dignified, calm and bowed to the audience, he behaved very regal. I do prefer him to Pavarotti now you mention it.

We seem to have a bus load of opera singers and Pavarotti fans on this site today, Pauls popularity must be bothering them. I have seen both live in concert and it was Pauls voice I found more emotional. I wonder what Pavarotti fans would say if we pitted them both together with equal training, and yes when Pavarotti was alive he had critics, I wonder why he often cancelled, the voice can get tired and strained.

My dears, please do not forget: he is an amateur !!! I can imagine his singing after a year of learning...alas, what I like is the faces of the jury : ))

Mikey. First thing on a morning I can't do with you opera know alls. I know a little about opera, not as much as you who know all there is to know. Pauls voice is very powerful, in concert he was amazing. You must then know how long it takes to train for opera, and judging by Pauls recent performances he is improving all the time. The beauty of Pauls voice is what connects with people more than the ones who have spent years in conservatories.

Paul Potts' singing was praised by the judges and by the audience. The actual quality of the performance though is not one that an experienced opera viewer/listener would ever even slightly appreciate. The voice sounds strained, the breathing technique is undeveloped, and only an inelegant tremolo can hide to an extent that the high notes are not under actual control. Maybe the crowd and the judges were impressed, but that is supposedly due to a lack of knowledge concerning true opera singing. |
