I agree to an extent, however several factors in small piston motors offer an overal superior powerband, seen in the Honda H22 or Subaru's 2.5L boxer. Granted, imports don't excel in drag racing due to the lack of torque (aside from the NSX and GTR), however they strongly excel in endurance, runtime, tuning, & high speed traction as well as fuel efficiency and longevity. If you fuse two DOHC Vtec 4-cylinders together, you'd still see significant power over a conventional carbuorated V8.
