This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the "Amen Break," a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music -- a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison's 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.

5 stars for this interesting look into the history of that Amen break sample.Like the guy said, The americans first used it for Hip Hop in the late 80's..And later on, UK Producers Got their hands on it.. and it played a Massive role in the Drum & Bass Scene. But It was not the start of Jungle/DnB..DnB was born out of the UK Hardcore Break beat scene (also around the late 80's), And was already well & truly kickin around the UK underground scene before we used the Sample.

I wonder what this guy's voice sounds like at its original, unsynthesized pitch.
