Not sure a paper pass is. When I tested for shodan my sensei said it was one of the fastest he had seen. I was really nervous. It's easy to do any of the techniques fast but you risk hurting your uke. I was commenting mainly on the test speed. Speed may be a used to conceal error. Not saying it's happening here. We have a saying: Fast is slow/slow is fast. If you blaze through techniques when you are learning, you miss alot of what's happening, by training slower you can learn so much more.

if you can perfect techniques fast and effective then i think its better than any paper pass, knowing yourself that you could do the techniques fast will give you confidence to defend your self in a real life situation. johno sensei 6th dan traditional aikido.

Kenji Tomiki was also Judo master. The sporting elements of Judo were incorporated into Aikido, creating Tomiki Aikido. This included coloured belts (Following the same grading system as Judo) and competition. I guess we just dress a bit like Judo players! You do see hakama but mainly for displays and grading.

Do you guys always practice this fast? When I tested for Nidan...I don't recall blazing through it like you do. Course I am from Karl Geis Ryu version of Tomiki Aikido. Looks good though.

Thats because you're stepping into tomiki koryu territory. Aiki-ki (flame me if you must) is much toned down though claims to contain the key (pun intended) aspects of aikido. In the beginning, you'll be started with toned down versions of the randori no kata, but that contains most of the movements for later learning. You cant become a master overnight in aikido, if that's what you're implying. Stuff that "works" is shown much later for your own safety.

what is the difference between aikido and tomiki aikido. I recently take aikido lessons and i sometime question if aikido is really effective in a fight. This video with tomiki aikido seems more effective.

Yes...I know. I'll try to find some old video of me doing my sandan exam. That has all of it. Or maybe I'll film it all anew this Christmas when I have more time. But you are right, it would be good to have posted.
