Ok, I know I'm posting to things over a year past and I hope not to dig up anything. Nariyama is also a 5th in Aikia, his movement is much crisper (you may say stiffer) than that of typical Aikido, but trust me, for a 70 something old man he still puts the hurt on young kids like me. I've seen many many instructors, and by far he's the best I've ever met

I don't know if TM got back to you, but the Honbu is definitely in Osaka, and just a random amendment but Sato san no longer goes by that name, he is Omoru (sp?) san now, he took his wife's name just after this.

Just reading some of the usual "Aikido's Crap" comments; This is demosntrating the PRINCIPLES behind the techniques. These techniques do work in real situation, I know because when I train with my group, we first practicwe like this, and then we use the techniques do defend against strikes. The more experienced you become, the more intensive training becomes. Slating Aikido just because your unfamiliar with it is ignorant. Why do you think the police use Aikido techniques?

Think my Sensei's style more similar to this vid. Must b some differences but intensity seems same. I think more similar than different! This competition??? If so seems personal best vs personal best. Please explain- like to understand & know my cousins better.

Sensei was shihan from Osaka. Said city is tuff -lots violence & Osaka "style" very martial. Very hard atemi, elbow strikes, "eagle claw" type grab face 2 hit pressure points, shihonage take uke straight down to mat not throw out &away. Strong control. Katame-waza usually end w/final blow.

Read remark about Aikikai being too soft or something. Not fair assessment. Dojos in any styles vary in quality practice & focus. Seen good & bad dojos in any 1 style incl own. I vu Aikidoka individually 2 see use strong basics: bent knees, lowered centre, solid structure/ posture, transference of power, etc. Dojos vary- basics never.

Excellent! Long time Aikikai - know very little about Tomiki style. Trained w/some Tomiki ppl @ Aikikai seminar. Felt like Aikido to me. Don't think much diff in terms of style per se. Diff seems 2 b methods of teaching & focus of sensei. In end, it's all Aikido. Had same experience & conclusion w/other styles too. |
