Hmmm not exactly I would say. Saying that Karate/shotokan has the meaning of using only one strike to KO is just a form of thinking that was adopted by sensei Yahara and others, but this is certainly NOT the traditional idea of karate. Each person can adopt its unique philosophy about Karate. In my case I personally don't like this form of thinking, cause most of the cases it's not real to win with only 1 hit. Also, karate goes much beyond of just strikes.

helio gracie lernt jiu jitsu in japan then on his return to brazil changed it to suit him self because he was such a small man he made it work for him that is where brazilian jiu jitsu came from look it up on the net

Sir, if I begin to practice judo and come up with some new moves and it gets famous should I name it "matavellirafa's judo"?Helio Gracie began practcing what?I bet he didn't just wake up one morning and thought "Man, i'm gonna make brazilian jiu-jitsu..."I don't know if it was helio gracie himself but I know a guy from the gracies family, (I guess it was the grandfather) he went to japan, trained a lot of jiu jitsu, and came back to brazil to spread it.. back then it was JiuJitsu..

after some time, brazilian people started to improve jiu-jitsutournaments like MMA came up, and everyone refered to brazilian people who knew jiu-jitsu.It all started with Jiu-Jitsu.Kyokushin is Karate, Budokai is karate, shotokan is Karate.I've never seen people saying "I Practice budokai"why ppl like to say"I know Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!"?karate has its differences between styles, but it is karate anyway.BJJ sounds like a whole different art.maybe im wrong but thats how I feel.c yah

you know, he sends me on tournaments and winning cups is everything that matters for my shihan... but you know what, i'll stick to kyokushin, it's not the fault of the style... thank you for reminding me that kyokushin is a great style!

Kyokushin is a very good and very 'hard' style of Karate. Kyokushin (Kyokushinkai) and Shotokan are both my favourite styles of Karate. I just think that the place where you train is maybe not so good? You should try going somewhere else to train Kyokushin before deciding whether you like it or not.Im a mixed martial artist, but much prefer my stand-up (good boxing mixed with muaythai), so im not biased towards or against any styles of Karate.

Ok, im not sure where you've heard that theres no such thing as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or whether you have come to that conclusion yourself, but you are very wrong!Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a style in itself.Jiu-Jitsu is older and comes from Japan, and is 'very different' from its Brazilian style.Helio Gracie was basically the founder of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he and a partner came up with many of the moves themselves, although they also took many moves from traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.

usually the only person going to the ground in a karate X judo/jiu-jitsu is the karate-ka's opponent...to grapple and throw you have to get close... getting close to a karate fighter is a really bad idea.. actually getting anywhere inside the range of a karate-ka's arm or leg is a bad idea...((There's no such thing as 'Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu'.. Jiu-Jitsu is Jiu-Jitsu anywhere.. the only difference is that brazilian people got famous with gracies..(I'm brazilian) ))
matavellirafa (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
the main idea of karate is that the fight starts and ends with 1 hit.there's no "space" between the attacks...karate is 1 hit KO.check out more shotokan kumite vids and you'll see in most of them that the "loser" is knocked out with 1 hit..usually for staying off guard or letting the oposer counter attack. Here in Brasil karate is not well supported as boxing or jiu jitsu, but it rocks anyway..I wonder how i would feel training in japan.. karate is really cool...everyone should try...
BadBlueBoy213 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
damn... this makes me think about quitting kyokushin karate... u know, my shihan is an asshole and i am not even sure if kyokushin is real karate... there is nothing such as "no first attack" in kyokushin.... |
