The simple answer to this is anywhere! If you are looking for someone to date, you never know when you will bump into them - they could, quite literally, be right around the next corner. It could also be a problem if you find that you aren't as attracted to this co-worker as they are to you. Remember, you will still be working together after the date so take care before using this source of dates. One way of getting around this is to suggest 'going out' as in a casual social evening, being very clear that it's not a date but rather a fun night out and make sure you keep it that way until you're sure you want to transition into date mode.
Taking up an activity in a group or classroom situation that interests you will put you amongst people who have a similar interest. This puts you in a great position to check-out the single people who are in your group/class and see if anyone catches your attention. If someone does, you are in a perfect position to be able to ask them out for a drink or coffee after the activity is finished for the day/evening - and then take it from there.
Today, one of the best ways to meet people to date is on the Internet. You can open your search internationally, or you can confine it to your local area - the choice is yours! Join a few sites with their introductory free membership offer, and find one that seems to give you what you're looking for. Make some Internet friends, and then if there's anyone who seems to be what you're looking for in a partner, start to make plans with them for a real date. Despite the skepticism surrounding Internet dating, it is a viable way of meeting people with a prospect of dating them in a more traditional way.
Keep an open mind, not to mention an open eye, and you'll find that dating possibilities are all around you - you just need to watch out for opportunities that put you in a position of being in contact with a person you're attracted to and want to date.
