The Universal Law of Reciprocity? What on earth is that? Well perhaps it is just a fancy name for other time honored cliches that you have heard in the past. How about You Reap What You Sow, or You Get What You Give. Whatever you want to call it does not matter. What is important however is that you recognize the existence of this universal law and how it can work for you.
Just last week I experienced just one such instance where something was given to me out of the blue and it reminded me of the validity of this law. You see, I love helping people and being involved on Forums where I can do this. But this isn't about me, it's about you and what you can do to help others and in turn make your own life better.
If you are involved in online marketing for examply, what do you actually give your list and your clients? Or are you one of those people for whom business is all take, take, take? If you fall into the latter category, as many online marketers do unfortunately, you will operate a revolving door for your clients. They just will not stick around.
Now you may well argue that by giving things to your clients or your list is giving away your profits. After all, that is what you do for a living and it is a fair argument. Let me give you an analogy however. Let us say you are walking down the street and you see a little old lady struggling to cross the road. Naturally, you help her, or at least I hope you would. Many people in the street would have seen your act of kindness and even though they may not come up and congratulate you or pat you on the back, the act has been noticed. Not only that, but you have also put that giving moment out into the universe.
Whilst you helped the old lady across the street, you did not walk her all the way home, decide to clean her house and make dinner while you were there, not to mention mow the lawns and do the garden. Do you see the difference? Well it is the same with your clients. Just because you give them a gift here and there does not mean that you have to open up your entire inventory of information products and give them away for free.
So what can you do to employ the Universal Law of Reciprocity?
The first thing you need to do is adopt an attitude that a giving attitude on your part is one where you expect nothing in return. To do otherwise would mean that you are giving on a conditional basis as opposed to an unconditional basis. Therefore you must give of yourself in an unconditional manner.
A great place to start is on Forums. Seek out those Forums where you have a degree of expertise. Start slow and offer bits of advice here and there to people and build your credibility. To hit a Forum and immediately start lecturing people will only get you a reputation of being a know-all. Forums can be great venues for other activities too apart from just answering questions. You can post links to newsworthy items to do with the Forum subject. You can also post questions that you might have that are relevant.
If you are an online marketer with a list, why not dig into your hard disk now and find one of those freebie programs you have sitting there that you can mail out. You can also write helpful articles for your list on topics of interest.
In summary, the Universal Law of Reciprocity is waiting to work for you and all you have to do to start making it happen is to give of yourself in an unconditional manner.
