Over the years, Mallorca has been the most visited of the Balearic Islands. The majority of tourists to Mallorca are British. This is probably because of it's location in the Mediterranean Sea, a very short flight away for British visitors.

Palma International Airport reported that visitors to Mallorca from the United Kingdom were up by 5 percent in 2007.

The only slow months for the airport were the first two months of the year. Total passenger arrivals were up by over 5 percent on the one-year average. With more flights this year, tourism is expected to increase yet again.

For many years, Mallorca has been the most popular holiday island for Brits during the normal holiday season. The results of the 2007 study seem to indicate a rise in tourism during the off-season months as well. In-season months include primarily the summer months. Off-season months are classified as those months outside the summer months. In 2006 and 2007, the number of off-season tourists gradually increased.

The Mallorca tourism board has campaigned for the past 15 years to increase tourism during the off-season. An island nation seeing 300 days of sunshine per year can offer much more during their off-season than many other potential holiday locations. The recent rise in tourism in the off-season is proving the tourist board's success in its campaign. Mallorcan tourism has been going strong for more than 100 years, and the tourism board looks forward to another 100.

The Balearic Islands Government and Tourism Board have every right to be proud of their work and their nation. The island has grown and improved dramatically over the past seven years alone.

The rise in popularity required the building of new resorts and expansions of others. New roads, rail links and tunnels were built on the island to compensate for the increase in traffic. In all, the government has spent more than 4 Euros million on improvements that help ensure the success of tourism on the island.

The major improvements help secure the success of tourism on the island and aid in the preservation of the way of life. Another new and exciting addition to the island is the upcoming construction of the new Congress Palace in Palma. Completion of the Palace is scheduled for 2010. The Palace will house many large celebrations, events, congresses and marketing activities.

The island of Mallorca has been steadily improving over the years. It has successfully maintained its place as the most visited tourist destination, even after more than 100 years. Increases in tourism drastically improve the way of life for all of Mallorca's residents.

Most of Mallorca's tourism revenue comes from the beach resorts. Mallorca's beaches, resorts and crystal blue waters see more tourists than the interior rural areas.

Mallorca is rich in culture. Those who take advantage of all it has to offer are never disappointed. The rural areas of Mallorca offer an entirely different approach to tourism. Rural tourism includes viewing the beautiful countryside and farms. Many local vineyards and farms still produce the majority of the vegetables, oils and wines used by chefs on the island. Ovine, or sheep, farming is another major contributor to the island's authentic appeal.

Many tourists have recently realized a tour of rural Mallorca gets them away from the hustle and bustle of the busier resort areas. Most of the available villas and flats in rural areas of Mallorca are of authentic architecture and offer more privacy than the popular and often crowded beach results. A tour of the interior of Mallorca is ideal for the nature lover and historian alike.
