What we call Phishing is the act to send unsolicited email to someone with false identity in order to scam the recipient and retrieve his personal information and steal his identity. This phenomenon is widespread on the Internet and many people are scamed everyday.

That is understandable because these at fisrt glance, the email look like as from legitimate and reputable company and sometimes, you could be familiar with this company. But the drawback is that it is a fake website built to replicate the legitimate site. This article will show you a practical example of phishing message, and how to identify this kind of message and how to avoid phishing on the Internet.

Let take one example. Yesterday, I received an email with this subject: "employment offer (part-time job) get paid weekly". The first mistake that guy made was to forget the "m" in the words "employment" (i corrected it here!). This means that it is not very serious. In the email body, he made a good description of his activity with many mistakes and poor language. At the end of the message, he ask me all private information like those you can find on your identity card and passport. He wants you to think that it is an employment form.

The last and the top mistake he made is to send you an email with a gmail account. Do you know any serious company using gmail account to send email to his future employees? He didn't leave any url for contact. Summary that is a very scam. Some others like this are widespread on the Internet and you have to be aware with them, like those coming from paypal or your bank and more. Paypal never ask you personal information for your accounts and your bank neither

Some of them provide you a link pointing to their fake website. The text link is something you are familiar with like paypal or other. A good way to check the legitimacy of this link is to point your mouse on the link and look the state bar of your screen (bottom left hand of your screen). Your will read here the true url where you are invited to visit. Usually it is far away from the legitimate website. Never click on this link and delete this email immediately and empty your trash box.

In summary in order to avoid phishing, it is very important to check the sender email and use a good judgement to see if you can be confident. Look the form of message and you can judge if a legitimate company can send you this kind of message. Never click on any link if you are sure of his legitimacy. Control the pointing text links using state bar (bottom left hand of your screen). If you are not sure on the legitimacy of any email, delete it and empty your trash box. Remember that your bank or paypal never ask you personal information by email and don't forget to install all computer security software like spam filter and spyware remover.

Follow these golden rules and you will avoid phishing on the Internet.
